Chevrolet Colorado ZR2

A lot of trucks boast off-road capability, and Colorado ZR2 rises above the rest. But the journey to the trails is covered in pavement, and ZR2 provides a smooth, comfortable ride there as well. With segment-exclusives like Multimatic™ shocks, front and rear electronic locking differentials and an available Duramax® 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine, you’ll leave those other off-road trucks in a cloud of dust.

Segment-exclusive front and rear electronic locking differentials help you climb high, while a hardcore off-road chassis and Multimatic™ DSSV shocks help stick the landing. With 50 mm front and rear lift as well as skid plates and rock sliders, you’ll be on point when you head off-road.

When you make an off-road truck of this caliber, it tends to look the part. ZR2 is no different. It’s 90 mm wider than Colorado and its 17-inch wheels are wrapped in beefy 31-inch Goodyear® tires, for an imposing stance and incredible stability.

GMC Sierra

General Motors will unveil the 2019 GMC Sierra on March 1 in Detroit amid expectations that it will be more differentiated from its Chevrolet Silverado sibling than ever before.

The Sierra unveiling, which also will include the high-end Sierra Denali, will come less than two months after the automaker officially introduced the 2019 Silverado on the eve of the Detroit auto show in January.

GM has said the redesigned Silverado is larger than current models yet as much as 450 pounds lighter. It features a longer wheelbase, more interior space and a new high-strength steel bed with increased cargo volume and an available power up-down tailgate that can be operated from the key fob, an interior button or by hand.

GM will offer six powertrain combinations, including a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel and 5.3- and 6.2-liter V-8s with a technology called Dynamic Fuel Management that can shut off cylinders, in a variety of combinations, to optimize performance and fuel economy.

The diesel engine — the first in a full-size Chevy pickup since the late 1990s — and 6.2-liter V-8 will be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. GM didn’t provide details of other transmission pairings or engines.

Production of the pickups is expected to start at GM’s plant in Fort Wayne, Ind., in the fall. GM also builds the trucks in Mexico, but it has not announced production details, so stay posted!

Buick Cascada

The Buick Cascada continues to fill the “white space” that Buick has been pursuing for the last several years. Despite sales volume for the small convertible trending downward, the model is attracting new customers – with nearly 70 percent of Cascada buyers being new to Buick. And for the 2019 model year, the Polish-built Cascada sees several minor changes, updates and new features.

First, the Carrageen Metallic exterior color is discontinued, bringing the exterior Buick Cascada color palette down to seven choices:

  • Rioja Red Metallic
  • Summit White
  • Ebony Twilight Metallic
  • Dark Moon Blue Metallic
  • Sport Red
  • Smoked Pearl Metallic
  • Flip Chip Silver Metallic

The second and third changes are all about removing the package ordering restrictions on the model:

  • The Sport Red exterior color no longer requires the Dark Effects Package. By comparison, ordering the Sport Red hue on the 2018 Buick Cascada automatically added the Dark Effects Package
  • The Sport Red exterior color is now available with the Light Neutral seats and Jet Black accents. The Sport Red interior on the 2018 Buick Cascada, by comparison, was only available with the Jet Black seats with Jet Black accents interior color combination.

About Buick Cascada

The Buick Cascada is a compact convertible. The current, first-generation Cascada was introduced for the 2016 model year. Essentially a rebadged Opel/Vauxhall Cascada, the vehicle is based on a variant of the GM Delta II platform shared with the Opel Astra and first-generation Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Volt and Opel Astra J.

For the 2018 model year, the Cascada gets three new exterior colors, two new convertible top colors and expanded availability of the Dark Effects Package.

The Buick Cascada is built exclusively at the GM-Opel Gliwice, Poland factory operated by GM/Opel Europe, which earlier this year was sold to PSA Groupe, along with all of Opel and Vauxhall.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

Hot on the heels of Ford’s “accidental” lap record at Virginia International Raceway earlier last week, Chevrolet gleefully announced the upcoming 2019 Corvette ZR1 smashed the Ford GT’s still-fresh time by 1.37 seconds.

Now Chevrolet is the record holder, cracking the GT’s record a week later in the 2019 Corvette ZR1, clocking in a blistering 2:37.25 time. Following in Ford’s treadmarks, the automaker was cool as a cuke when discussing the new record. According to the Corvette team, this too was a validation run, not meant for cracking the lap record.

This wasn’t some stripped-down test-mule special either. Aside from different seats, a harness bar, and five-point harnesses, the record-setting ‘Vette was bone stock. It was equipped with the ZTK performance package, adding a deep, deep front splitter, adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and MagneRide suspension.

Regal TourX

The 2018 Regal TourX, Buick’s first wagon model in over 20 years, could account for 50% of all Regal sales in the US, a considerable increase compared to previous projections of 30%.

U.S. sedan sales are circling the drain, and Buick’s SUV lineup is strong and growing. Nobody expected it to sell many Regals, so the brand rolled the dice on a couple of unusual body styles, the TourX wagon and its stablemate the fastback Regal Sportback.

This would be quite the achievement, seen as how the U.S. car market isn’t exactly dominated by station wagons – it’s hard to break through with family-oriented models that aren’t crossovers or saloons.

“We’re pretty realistic about where the car market’s at, but we’re getting some pretty good feedback on it,” stated Buick and GMC U.S. marketing VP, Phil Brook during an interview with Autonews.

CHEVROLET EQUINOX

It’s official, we’ve got another 2018 Equinox. This one powered by a 1.6-liter turbodiesel I-4. The new Equinox diesel was tested to find out how much the extra torque really improves the driving experience.

On the road, the Equinox TD is smooth and silent, and unlike in the Cruze TD, there’s minimal powertrain vibrations penetrating the cabin. Tire noise is kept to a minimum even on rough surfaces. Visibility out of the diesel-powered 2018 Equinox is excellent, thanks to its large windows and low beltline. The generous glass area also gives the crossover’s cabin an airy feel, making it less claustrophobic. An optional panoramic sunroof further gives the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox TD’s interior a sense of spaciousness. Front and rear accommodations are generous, with the latter being notable, thanks to its flat floor. The front seats feel flat, so it might take some time to get comfortable. Convenience features such as 60/40 split-folding rear seats that can be folded via levers in the cargo area make the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox TD more family-friendly.

While tested on the streets of Los Angeles, its suspension absorbed imperfections well and kept the cabin civilized. The 17-inch alloy wheels and tires with tall sidewalls help, as well, dispatching sharp bumps and potholes with ease. When the car is put in all-wheel-drive mode, the transmission upshifts smoothly and that the start/stop system was surprisingly unobtrusive.

Perhaps our favorite quality of the 2018 Equinox TD is the excellent fuel economy. The front-drive model is EPA-rated at 28/39 mpg city/highway, and the all-wheel drive model checks in at 28/38 mpg. During testing, the front-drive model was put through Real MPG’s evaluations, and the results were an impressive 33.1/46.7 mpg, making this oil-burning family car one of the most fuel-efficient crossovers tested this year.

If you love your Chevy Equinox already and are looking for a quality upgrade or are in the market for a safe and fuel efficient family car, keep a lookout for the new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox Diesel at Jessup Auto Plaza!

 Buick Regal

A redesigned Buick Regal is arriving in dealerships with two new body styles in an attempt to differentiate the car in a fading, yet competitive, midsize segment.

“Some have said it’s risky. I think for us to just come into the market and do the same thing we’ve always done was a much bigger risk,” Phil Brook, U.S. vice president of marketing of Buick and GMC, told Automotive News during a media drive of the 2018 Regal Sportback through the Texas Hill Country.

The Regal Sportback features a sedan-like silhouette that somewhat camouflages the change until someone opens the trunk and the rear window lifts with it. The body style – popular in Europe, where the car is being produced – allows the vehicle to offer significantly more interior storage and sleeker styling.

Brook described the Sportback as a “surprising” change and “big twist” for the midsize car segment, which has been dominated for years by the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

“This is meant to be a driver’s car,” Finnegan said. “If you want something that’s not on every airport rental lot and everyone on your street has, this remains the unique option.”

The Sportback is powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 250 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. It starts at $25,915 including shipping.

The TourX, arriving on dealer lots soon, starts at $29,995. It will be followed early next year by the Regal GS, a higher-performance version of the Sportback with a 3.6-liter V-6 and standard all-wheel drive, priced starting at $39,990.
